Old Ebbitt truly is a DC staple, and right along the walking path when touring various sites or monuments in the area. Also, they have a pretty amazing lunch which can sometimes be hard to find in the city. As such, there's a mixture of tourists and government employees, sneakers and high heels, but everyone feels welcome walking in. Plus, the establishment is pretty spectacular with all the wood and murals. If nothing else, come in for a drink and take a look around. There are three bars so there's always somewhere to sit, and a great place to watch the crowd.
